Automated Can Collection
The City of Sebring has implemented an automated garbage can collection program. Automated collection is a system where garbage containers are emptied using a mechanical arm on the collection vehicle, instead of workers lifting and emptying cans by hand. The city’s automated collection service is made by 1 solid waste employee (driver) per truck; the manual system requires a 3-person crew (driver and 2 collectors). The city provides 1- 96 gallon can per residence. In order for automated pick-up to work successfully, solid waste drivers must stay in their trucks as much as possible. Each time a driver exits a truck, it slows down the route and creates delays in pick-up schedules. The Solid Waste division asks that residents / customers follow all automated cart instructions.
-
Place all items inside the cart. The lid should be fully closed. If the can is overfilled and the lid is propped open, the driver will be unable to empty the cart.
-
Place cart curbside by no later than 6:30 a.m. on your collection day.
-
Place the cart within 3 feet of the street curb with the arrow on the lid pointing toward the curb/street.
-
Keep carts at least 4 feet away from other carts, mailboxes, fire hydrants, low hanging trees or shrubs, parked cars, and utility poles so trucks can easily access the cart.
The following cannot be placed into the city issued containers:
- Hazardous materials
- Lead-acid batteries
- Paints or solvents
- Propane cylinders
- Sharp items
- Tires
- Used oil or oil filters
- Yard trash
Rates
Residential customers of the City of Sebring are charged $210.00 per unit per year, equating to $17.50 per month. This is collected as part of your property tax.
You pay for your sanitation services through a fee. The fee appears on your property tax bill as an ad valorem assessment for Sanitation services. For that fee, you receive the following:
- 2 garbage pickups per week
- 2 yard trash pickups per month of a reasonable amount of yard trash (i.e. up to 4 grapple bucket scoops)
- 2 cubic yards of extraordinary waste per month. This includes white goods and items requiring additional management due to its bulk
Pick-up of these materials must be scheduled in advance of pick-up by calling 863-471-5115. Any disposal of solid waste beyond the above is the responsibility of the property owner.
